Mr. Charles A. Wong, born in Honolulu, received there the rudiments of education. After graduation from the Hawaii High School, he went to the United States of America for higher education. Prior to going to the United States he worked for some time in order to save enough money to study in an American university. He attended Harvard University where he graduated with honors. After graduation in 1911 he returned to Honolulu to work. In 1922 he came to Peking and entered the Chinese government service, moved by the patriotic feeling to render service to his own country. He was appointed a member of the Salt Gabelle in 1913 and assigned to the accounting department. He performed his duties successfully. At one time an attempt was made by the salt officials to influence him to make some change in the account book, but he refused to do so and thus incurred their displeasure.
