The charming qualities of Mrs. Brightwen's earlier volumes of Natural History are present in this last collection. She discourses here on creatures so different as a badger and a locust, and again shows her genius for making friends with animals, and studying them in a thoroughly truth-seeking though unpedantic spirit. Any intelligent child can easily understand and enjoy these pages, in which there is enough originality to appeal to grown-up nature-lovers as well.
