H. and Julia (Barge) Beck; when twelve years of age admitted to Girls' Normal School and graduated at sixteen with distinction; m. Philadelphia, Pa., 1885, Clarke Stanley Hurlbut (died Jan. 26, 1899); one son: Clarke Stanley 2d, b. Aug. 9, 1888 (grad. Yale Coll., A.B. (Phi Beta Kappa) 1908; grad. Univ. of Pa., LL.B. 1911). Specially interested in little children who are maimed, sickly or sightless. Author: The Biography of Benjamin P. Barge (her uncle); also many smaller publications, short stories, also verse. Protestant Episcopal. Recreations: Music, study, boating, golf, walking. With her son has been presented to the King of England.
