At the top we show 2 for the number in the heading. But the number is Roman lower case 2 (which is ii). When entering ii, the wiki does not recognize it and gives an error.

Here's a page showing that the wiki should recognize Roman numerals.

It's the {{rvh}} template that doesn't cope with Roman numerals. They are recognised in the pagelist command on the Index. The rvh "template deliberately only handles very simple and regular cases" (documentation of the template). The preferred method for non-simple running headers is to use {{Running header}}.
