Fragment 124, -tät

[edit]

In addition, Novalis is playing on a noun forms that make the words hard to render into english "Germanität", for instance was rendered as being German. This leads to an assymetry at the end, where Novalis uses "Popularität", which would have the parallel form of being popular, or playing against fragment 46, which references popolo, of the people. Germanness may have a different meaning than popularity and more a meaning of being of the people. This also fits in with the use of popularity in fragment 47.

Minus Poesien

[edit]

Minus in this case means something different than minor. In Fragment 306 in the Fragments collected by Tieck and Schlegel is a reference to Plus and Minus Poetry.
