At the end of Fragment 54, Novalis accomplishes with pronouns in German what must be done with proper names in English. Both "Ihre" and "seines" means its. "Ihre" is its for the feminine noun, "Gesellschaft", and "seines" is its for the masculine noun, "Geist".

Karmacher

This rare word denotes somebody a kept man who escorts a woman. Cicisbeo, a man who escorts a married woman in public for money, is most precise equivalent to a Karmacher. Gigolo is a close equivalent, though it doesn't have as strong a sense of infidelity as cicisbeo. See entry for Chichisbeo"" in Neues Spanisch-Deutsches Wörterbuch (1897) by Stomer.

For this translation, the more neutral, but easier to understand toady was used.
