Pledge of Allegiance (1954)

Version of the United States pledge formally adopted in 1954 and in use up to the present. Inserted the words “under God”. Attorney Louis Albert Bowman was first made this addition during an Illinois meeting of the Sons of the Revolution in 1948. The Knights of Columbus adopted the change in 1951. An act of Congress in 1954 formalized the addition.
