TO ——
WHAT need is there to tell thee how,
Since Love and I are comrades now,
I face the world with radiant brow?
        Thou knowest!

What need to say that day and night
Thine image glads my inward sight,
And makes my beating heart dance light?
        Thou knowest!

Nor need I swear that, come what may,
I'll love thee, dear, with love alway,
Till Death meets Life on God's highway?
        Thou knowest!
