The following is the text of conveyed to Mr. T.M. Healy, the first Governor General of the Irish Free State concerning Pope Piux XI’s response to news of Mr Healy’s appointment. The message came days after the inauguration of the new Irish Free State (Source: The Times, 12 December 1922)

His Holiness has received with much pleasure your Excellency's message and cordially welcomes your appointment. The Holy Father prays that a happy era of peace and prosperity may now set in for the beloved people of Ireland and from his heart sends you apostolic benediction.
