CHARLES CLARIDGE, Esq.
[Commander.]

Is said to have served as fifth lieutenant of the Defence 74, Captain John Peyton, at the battle of the Nile; but his first commission did not bear an earlier date than Sept. 11th, 1799. He obtained the rank of commander on the 22d Sept. 1806; and an appointment to the Driver ship-sloop, on the Halifax station, about April, 1807; but was superseded in the command of that vessel, for misconduct when in presence of an enemy, on the 10th Feb. 1809[1].
