THE HUMAN MIND

I love to roam alone, unseen,
In cities of the human mind,
Untrodden by the crooked thoughts
  Vile-born,—unkind.

Incognito I wish to wander,
To living lanes my thoughts surrender
With simple wish to know and learn
The straight nice paths and danger turns.

I wish to roam in mazy lanes
Of dark and brighter thoughts,
With love to all and harm to none,
With better message fraught.

I’d love to broaden narrow lanes
Of selfish crooked thoughts
With my love’s true-building brain
That I’ve within me got.
I long to soar so high
That I at once may spy
The narrow alleys, broader roads
Of human thoughtful moods.
