Sunset is a magazine focusing almost exclusively on the western United States. It was founded in 1898, initially as a promotional vehicle for the Southern Pacific Railroad. In 1911 the Southern Pacific bought The Pacific Monthly and merged the two (retaining "Sunset" as the primary name). The magazine rose to international prominence as it grew, and developed a broader and more journalistic focus, particularly after the ownership was transferred in 1914. The Internet Archive has uploaded high quality scans of several volumes.
