[edit]

I added this treasure of American history after finding a scanned PDF online. I would like to acknowledge Mr. Chris Forster for finding this. The original PDF be found at his blog.

There may be typos in the original, since I copied the work by hand as the PDF was too poor to do OCR on. If you see a typo in the work, chances are it was due to my sloppy typing and not to a misspelling in the original. An exception would be the use of the misspelled word syren.

I have tried to format this as nicely as possible, but it could possibly use some touching up. A more experienced editor may be able to help with this.

Also, the work contains references to a large number of statutes and court cases. It would be helpful to include wikilinks to these; however, many of them are old state and English cases that I cannot find online. Even Regina v. Hicklin, the seminal Victorian case on the subject has no Wikipedia article of its own, and Google Scholar does not have the text of the case.
