Which edition is this?

This differs slightly in spots from the college textbook I possess, which is "A World of Ideas", 8th edition, by Lee A. Jacobus. -- BullRangifer (talk) 23:22, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

This is from the 1847 edition. The original 1841 edition was called Essays, and it was only when he published Essays: Second Series that this first set was renamed. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 07:05, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Emerson's Essay on Self Reliance is misquoted.

It seems that there are words either added or deleted from the original text. I own a leather bound copy of the original essay, and there are numerous differences between what I possess and the text quoted here, although the essence of the essay remains. I was very disappointed that this author took the liberty to assume he could improve on the original writings of a true master of the word. Note that this is the 1847 edition and not the 1841 edition. Emmerson revised the essays when they were republished and it is Emmerson himself who "took the liberty." Beeswaxcandle (talk) 21:44, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
