This was manually converted in to plaintext today (2011-02-07) from a PDF available from diarysearch.co.uk. The DiarySearch website says this:

The diary of Walter Gale, schoolmaster, of Mayfield in Sussex, from 1750 and 1758 to 1759, was edited by R.W.Blencowe and published in the Sussex Archaeological Collections, Volume IX, in 1857.

Although the PDF version may have questionable copyright status, the original text is available from the Sussex Weald website (here). The text was written in the 1750s, so is obviously out of copyright. The edited version by Blencowe was published in 1857 so is also obviously out of copyright.

Extracts are published in various books (see a list of them here). Mary Morris (talk) 17:13, 7 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reference is made in Mayfield - The Story of an Old Wealden Village (Elizabeth Margaretta Bell-Irving), specifically in ch. 14 (Walter Gale is misnamed as John Gale). A readable copy is on the Sussex Weald website here.
I also have posted more information on Tom Morris' en-wp talk page. Mary Morris (talk) 17:29, 7 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
