Reviews[edit]

  • The Outlook, 22 Oct 1924: One knows beforehand that the author of "The Four Feathers" and "The Courtship of Morrice Buckler" will give his reader good measure of plot and incident well put together by an author who writes as one expects an Oxford man to write and who is not a mere mystery-making mechanic. Here the mystery is complicated but intriguing, in the true sense of that now abused word.
  • The Bookman Nov 1924: Hanaud is no mere tracer of clues but a master at reading character, and Mr. Mason's novel has qualities far above the ordinary.
