Information about this edition
Edition: The music is as published in The Songs of England, Volume I, Edited by J. L. Hatton, Boosey & Co, London (c. 1890s). Some slight tweaks have been made to verses 3-6, as the music requires several repeats.

For the original poem, the text was taken from The Works of James Thomson by James Thomson, Published 1763, Vol II, p.191, which includes the entire original text of Alfred.

Source: The music is from a book in Adam Cuerden's possession. Scanned as Image:Rule Britannia 1.png and Image:Rule Britannia 2.png

The poem is transwiki'd from w:Rule, Britannia.

This isn't a national anthem. I've therefore removed the link to national anthems page. AllanHainey 14:55, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • I would suggest it is always "never, never, never" and never "ne-e-e-e-e...ver", which is actually quite hard to sing well, sounds ugly even if it is sung well and personally I don't recollect ever having heard sung by a choir. I think the definitive version would have to be as sung annually at The Last Night of the Proms and you won't catch those die-hard fanatics singings ne-e-e-e-e...ver! 118.97.53.194 01:43, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
