Template:Do not move to Commons
![]() | Do not copy this file to Wikimedia Commons. This file is in the public domain in the United States but not in its country of origin. Wikimedia Commons only accepts files that are public domain in both the country of origin and the United States. For more details, see Commons:Licensing, Wikipedia:Public domain, Wikipedia:Copyrights and talk for the PD-1923 license template. | ![]() ![]() |
Usage[edit]
This template must be accompanied by the appropriate copyright tag. It often accompanies {{PD/US}}
.
It takes an optional argument expiry
that hides the message at the end of the given year. For example, if a work by an author who died in 1950 was first published in a country whose copyright term is life plus 70 years, expiry
would be 2020, and the message would automatically disappear in 2021, when the image would be automatically placed into Category:Media now suitable for Commons.
Examples[edit]
{{Do not move to Commons}}
- Always shows the template.
{{Do not move to Commons|expiry=_last year of copyright_}}
{{Do not move to Commons|expiry=2020}}
- Shows the message until December 31, 2020, but hides it starting January 1, 2021; so this is the last year of the year of copyright
{{Do not move to Commons|why{{=}}the file is not Public Domain in the originating country}}
- Shows an explanation in the box. You can use both "expiry" and "why".
Use of this template by default categorises work into Category:Media not suitable for Commons. The categorisation can be overridden with use of the parent = yes
. This would be used on an images that is in a category for the work, and that category utilises this template and collects the Media not suitable for Commons catgegorisation.
{{Do not move to Commons|expiry=2020|parent=yes}}
