Usage[edit]

Template to format the side-by-side Saxon/English in An English-Saxon homily on the birth-day of St. Gregory by Elizabeth Elstob (1709).

It is basically a {{multicol}}, but some options are preset for convenience and {{Saxon}} is applied to the left-hand column.

Open the environment in the header of the page (except for the first page where it's in the body) using {{Elstob side-by-side/s}}. Then use {{Elstob side-by-side}} to format the text in the body. Finally, {{Elstob side-by-side/e}} to close the columns (in the footer, except for the last page).

Example

{{Elstob side-by-side/s}}
{{Elstob side-by-side|
<poem>
This is the Saxon
text, which goes on
the left of the page.
</poem>
|<poem>
This is the English
text, which goes on
the right of the page.
</poem>
}}
{{Elstob side-by-side/e}}

This is the Saxon
text, which goes on
the left of the page.

This is the English
text, which goes on
the right of the page.
