This template uses Lua:

Module:Greek (sandbox)

This template uses block elements, e.g. <div> or <p>.
It should not be nested inside an inline element, e.g. <span>, or a template that produces such an element.

This template applies the class wst-lang-grc, which can be targeted with a work's index styles.css using page styles.

This template uses TemplateStyles:

Template:Greek/styles.css (sandbox)

This template uses the lang HTML attribute to identify the text's language as Ancient Greek (grc).

Note: This template is used for Ancient Greek text. Modern Greek should use {{Modern Greek}} (or {{el}}) to set the correct language code (el).

Usage

For multiple paragraphs, either use {{Greek block}}, or {{Greek block/s}} and {{Greek block/e}}.

Wiktionary linking

You can optionally link to the Ancient Greek section of a Wikitionary entry with parameter 2:

{{Greek|λύω|λύω}} → λύω

This should be done sparingly and in accordance with annotations guidelines.

Customisation

If you wish to use a particular font for Ancient Greek, you can add CSS like the following to your CSS:

}

Italics

The upright capital alpha indicates that the Greek is not italicised

Note that while many fonts may appear similar to italic Latin glyphs, Greek is generally not italicised. If in doubt, check capital letters: if they are upright, the text is not italic, it's just in a font that has slightly slanted lowercase letters.

TemplateData

Denote text as Ancient Greek. Always use this for Ancient Greek (do not use no template), and use {{Modern Greek}} for Modern Greek.
