Template:Playscript
Usage
[edit]This template is intended for formatting text in plays, scripts and similar texts. It creates a table that creates a standard format, with the lines indented equally.
Parameters
[edit]- Required
- name: The character's name (or use the first unnumbered parameter).
- lines: The character's lines (or use the second unnumbered parameter).
- Optional
- gap: Use this to change the width of the first column, the character's name (or use the third unnumbered parameter). It is measured in em's. This defaults to 5em. If changed from the default, this will be needed in each instance of the template.

Lines continuing over two pages
[edit]Alternative versions of this template exist for lines that extend over two pages in the Page namespace:
- {{playscript/s}}
- {{playscript/e}}
For example, assuming a line is broken in this manner:
Page 1 | Page 2 | ||
---|---|---|---|
Juliet: | O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name; |
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet. |
The first page should entered as:
{{playscript/s | Juliet: | O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name;}}
With a {{playscript/e}}
in the footer.
NB: If the lines are expected to flow, with no line break, between pages, make sure that there is no line break before the end of the template. ie. The }}
should immediately follow the text.
The second page should be entered as:
{{playscript/e |Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet. }}
With a {{playscript/s}}
in the header.
NB: Leaving a gap between the pipe and the start of the text can sometimes cause problems, so it is best avoided.
Notes
[edit]This template should only be used for short sections. Using this template for an entire play or act may cause performance problems in displaying the page properly (if at all).
