Template:Polytonic/doc

This template uses the Universal Language Selector extension to provide the following functions:

  1. Uses the lang HTML global attribute to identify the text's language as Ancient Greek (grc).
  2. Provides a series of appropriate web fonts for displaying the Greek characters.

Note: This template is used for Greek text that uses polytonic orthography. Greek text that uses monotonic orthography should be placed in the template {{Greek}} instead. For more information on monotonic vs. polytonic orthography, see w:Greek diacritics.

Usage[edit]

Automatically selects an appropriate font for Greek characters.

  • Greek characters 1) without template; 2) with {{Greek}} template; 3) with {{Polytonic}} template:

Linking to Wiktionary[edit]

As Ancient Greek words are unlikely to be comprehended by many, a means exists to allow for linking to Wiktionary. The linking will be on the text, and requires an anchor Ancient Greek at the target page at Wiktionary. To activate this function a second parameter is required to be present.

{{polytonic|Ἀθῆναι|yes}} gives Ἀθῆναι
