About

Intended to speed up proofreading of treaties and conventions. The template provides the final block of text (with appropriate formatting and sidenotes) which is common to the last paragraphs of treaties and conventions. The format has been derived with reference to Volume 33 of the United States Statutes at Large, which appears to use a largely consistent format throughout. No other volumes have been reviewed.

Template not yet side aware, but this is the intention eventually!!! The template assumes that sidenotes in the Page namespace are on the right unless the side parameter is set to left. All sidenotes display on the right in other namespaces regardless of the side parameter.

Mandatory parameters are:

• type: Treaty or Convention as appropriate
• city: the city where ratifications were exchanged
• ratification date: supply the string as given in the text
• President's name: the name of the President in standard Capitalised Form - small caps is automatically applied by the template
• hand: the only permitted values are d for "Done" and g for "Given under my hand", as appropriate
• proclamation date: supply the string as given in the text
• proclamation year: supply the string as given in the text
• independence year: supply the string as given in the text
• Sec State name: the name of the Secretary of State in standard Capitalised Form - small caps is automatically applied by the template

Optional parameters are:

• amend: set to y if the text "as amended by the Senate of the United States of America" is present
• protocol: set to y if a protocol is present
• acting: set to y if Secretary of State signed in an Acting capacity; leave blank otherwise

The template is unable to manage all possible variations to the formula. The template can be used in the subst: mode to assist with the manual proofreading and formatting of such variants.

Look to ensure automated section tagging in a subsequent version The template automatically formats the text, as well as providing section tags in the form <Chap##> for the entire template output, and <Chap##title> for the Chapter heading line and short title, where ## is the number defined in the chapter parameter.

Treaty with amendment and protocol
