Versions of
The Celestial Country
by Bernard of Cluny, translated by John Mason Neale

The second of Neale's translations of Bernard's poem De contemptu mundi. The translation was first published in 1858 as a standalone volume, and was incorporated into the second edition of Neale's Mediaeval Hymns and Sequences. It is based on the first 218 lines of the 3000-line original.

At least ten hymns exist whose lyrics are exerpts from this translation; see "Hora novissima, tempora pessima sunt, vigilemus," in A Dictionary of Hymnology, (ed.) by John Julian (1892).
