The Church's One Foundation
by Samuel John Stone

"The Church's One Foundation" was written in 1866 as the ninth hymn in Stone's Lyra Fidelium; Twelve Hymns on the Twelve Articles of the Apostles' Creed. It is based on the ninth article of the Apostles' Creed, "The holy Catholic Church; The Communion of Saints".

This hymn was the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's 1896 poem "Hymn before Action". It is usually sung to Samuel Sebastian Wesley's tune "Aurelia".
