Scottish poem and song, composed and sung by Robert Burns at a festive meeting of the excisemen of the Dumfries district, first published in The Scots Musical Museum in 1792. The poem was set to the tune of "The Hemp-Dresser," which was included in the book of fiddle-tunes The Caledonian Pocket Companion (c. 1760) by James Oswald.
