TO AN ENEMY NATION

You have grown fat,—
Too fat and gross
To leap and dance
Like a slim maiden
In the doubtful Spring.

Your voice is hoarse
With hawking your body,
Hoarse and cracked—
You who once sang
Like leaves in the wind.

And that slinking glance,—
Can you never forget
The red midnight
When you sold your soul,
Liberty?
