AKEE (Blighia sopida), fruit tree of the family Sapindaceæ. It is a native of tropical Africa, reaches a height of 25 feet or more, with numerous branches. Its leaves resemble those of the ash. The fruit is about the size of a goose’s egg, contains three seeds, and has a grateful flavor. With sugar and cinnamon it is used as a remedy for diarrhœa. The distilled water of the flowers is sometimes used as a cosmetic. Sometimes by cramping the roots in pots the akee produces fruit in hot-houses.
