BREWSTER, William, American ornithologist and author: b. Wakefield, Mass., 5 July 1851. A graduate of the Cambridge High School, he was curator of the collection of birds and mammals of the Boston Society of Natural History, 1880-87; curator of the department of mammals and birds 1885-1900, and after the latter year, of birds alone at the Cambridge Museum of Comparative Zoology, his own private museum of ornithology also occupying a great deal of his attention. He is author of ‘Bird Migration’ (1886); ‘The Birds of the Cape Region of Lower California’ (1902); ‘The Birds of the Cambridge Region of Massachusetts’ (1906).
