ZETA, zē'tạ, (1) the Greek equivalent of the English letter Z, and sixth in the Greek alphabet. (2) a small closet or chamber; applied by some authorities to the room over the porch of a Christian church, where were kept the documents of the church and also containing quarters of the sexton.
