A London bachelor who has come into a little money buys a house in Hertford Park. He soon discovers that an air of mystery hangs about the place, and that the other houses in the street, with the exception of No. 19, are empty. Strange sounds and odors, and stranger emanations of an indefinable nature, assail him from this garden.
