Arbuthnot, Sir George Gough, Kt. born, 1818; son of the late A. G. Arbuthnot; educated at Eton; partner in the late firm of Arbuthnot & Co., Bankers & Merchants, Madras; Member of the Madras Legislative Council on different occasions; Fellow of the Madras University; Chairman, Famine Relief Fund of 1900 and a prominent Member of the Madras Chamlber of Commerce; proceeded to England after the failure of his firm in 1906.
