Murray, Major-General Robart Hunter, C.B. (1896), C.M.G. (1898); Indian Army (retired); y.s. of late John Murray of Roxburghshire; b. 1847; educ: Edinburgh Academy; m. Florence, d. of late Captain H. W. Barlow, R.E., 1887; entered Army as Ensign of the Hind Highlanders, 1867; served in the Afghan War, 1878 80; severely wounded at Kandahar (medal with 4 clasps and bronze star); Brigade-Major of the Indian Contingent in the Egyptian Campaign, 1882; Colonel, 1892; A.D.C. to Empress Victoria; served in various other places and was commanding troops at Alexandria, 1903-04.
