Murshidabad, Nawab of; Hon’ble Theisham-ul-Mulk Raja ud-Daula Amir-ul-umara, Nawab Asef Qadr Sayed Wasif Ali, Mirza, Khan Bahadur, Mahabut Jung Bahadur, K.C.S.I., (1910); s. of late Nawab Sir Syed Hussain Ali Bahadur, G.C.I.E.; b. 1875; claims to be 38th in descent from Prophet Muhammed; educ; privately in Arabic Persian, Urdu and English; proceeded to England and joined Rugby and Oxford; m. Nawab Sultan Dulin Fugfur Jahan Begum Saheba, 1898; succeeded to gaddi with usual hereditary titles, 1906; keenly interested in matters Municipal; Member, Bengal Legislative Council on four occasions; represented Bengal at the Coronation of Emperor George V. in London, 1911; Patron, Calcutta Historical Society, and Anjuman-i-Mussalman-i-Bangala; beautified the town of Murshidabad by constructing an imposing pile of buildings in the Italian style; established a High School in his capital; liberal supporter of local industries; the estate is composed of villages in the districts of Murshidabad, Calcutta, Midnapur, Dacca, Malda, Patna, Purnea, Rangpur, Hooghly, Rajshai, Birbhum, and the Sonthal Parganas.
