Charles Withers, Indian Army (retired); joined service, 1872; Assistant Cantonment Magistrate in vairous places till 1875; special Political Agent, 1877; on special duty in connection with the boundary dispute, 1879-80; served in Afghan War (Medal); transferred to Police Department and posted as Superintendent, Rajputana Railway Police, 1880; Assistant Commissioner, Merwara, 1886; 1st Assistant Political Resident, Persian Gulf, 1887; Cantonment Magistrate, and Judge, Court of Small Causes, Secunderabad, 1890; Assistant to Resident in Mysore. 1891; Resident in Gwalior and Mewar, 1895 and 1897 respectively; became Lt.-Col, 1898; Commissioner, Ajmir-Merwara, 1899; Resident at Baroda, 1899; at Nepal, 1902.
