DON'ALDSON, Edward (1816-89). An American naval officer. He was born in Baltimore, entered the navy as midshipman in 1835, and became lieutenant in 1847. In 1862, as commander of the Scioto, he took part in the bombardment of Fort Jackson and Saint Philip, in Farragut's capture of New Orleans, and was raised to the rank of oommander. He also participated in the battle of Mobile Bay. He became a captain in 1866, a commodore in 1871, and a rear-admiral in 1876, when he was retired from the service.
