MEMPHIS. A city and the county-seat of Scotland County, Mo., 45 miles west of Keokuk, Iowa; on the Keokuk and Western Railroad (Map: Missouri, D 1). It is a shipping centre of some importance for the adjacent farming and stock-raising district. There are deposits of coal in the vicinity. Population, in 1890, 1780; in 1900, 2195.
