SLIMEHEAD. One of the beautiful, red, richly ornamented berycoid fishes of the genus Beryx, called by the French ‘alfonsines.’ They are found in the deep seas of all warm latitudes, and one species (Beryx splendens) is taken in the Gulf Stream. See Plate of Mullets and Allies.
