Am'men, Daniel, was born May 15, 1820, in Ohio, and entered the navy as midshipman in 1836. During the Civil War he took part in the battle of Port Royal, and in the attacks on Fort Fisher and Fort Sumter. He became commodore and afterward rear-admiral, retiring in 1878. He died July 11, 1898.
