Duccio di Buoninsegna (do͝ot′chṓ dḗ bo͝o-ṓ′nḗn-sắn′yȧ), also known as Duccio di Siena, was born about 1260 and died about 1320. He was the Italian painter who founded the Sienese school. His great picture is the altar-piece of the Madonna in the cathedral at Siena. When completed, the delighted people carried it in a procession to the church.
