Death of Mr. J. B. Payne.

Mr. John Bruce Payne, headmaster of Bishop's Stortford School, where Cecil Rhodes was educated, died suddenly on Saturday at the age of 71. The son of the late Canon D. Bruce Payne, he was educated at the King's School, Canterbury, and at Rossall, where he was captain of the school. He went up to Caius College, Cambridge, of which he was Tancred student. After taking his degree, he was for two years head mathematical master at Ascham School, Bournemouth, and became in 1880 headmaster of St. Aubyn's School, Lowestoft. He was appointed to Bishop's Stortford School in January, 1904
