HICKIE, Lieut.-Col. Carlos Joseph, C.M.G. (1919). Commanding 1st Batt. Royal Fusiliers. Educ.: Oscott College; Beaumont College. 2nd Lieut. Gloucester Regt. 1893; served South African War, including siege of Ladysmith (wounded at Rietfontein, 24th Oct., 1899, Queen's medal, 4 clasps, King's medal, 2 clasps); Captain K.O.Y.L.I., 1902: Major Royal Fusiliers, 1912: served European War, Egypt and Gallipoli as Brigade Major 126th Brigade (severely wounded 4th June, 1915); commanded 14th Batt. Hants Regt., Jan., 1916, on Western Front until appointed Brigade Commander, Aug., 1916; commanded 115th, 224th. and 7th Infantry Brigade successively: Brig.-Gen. (temp.), Aug., 1916-April, 1919; third son of late Lieut.-Col. J. F. Hickie, of Slevoyre, Borrisokane: b. 1872; m. 1903, Edith, only dau. of late Capt. M. H. Thunder, of Coolnagloose, Co.
