IRWIN, Major.-Gen. Sir James Murray, K.C.M.G. (1918); C.B., Mil. (1917): son of the late Rev. J, W, Irwin, Rector of Sharon, Co, Donegal, and Florine Griffiths, dau. of the late Rev. John Griffiths Lloyd, of Twwscoed Hall, Montgomeryshire; b. 13th Feb.. 1858. Educ. at Trinity College, Dublin (Hon. M.D., B.A., B.Ch., M.A.O.); m. 26th July, 1881, Nora, dau. of Thomas Conlan, C.I.E., Barrister-at-Law; joined R.A.M.C. 1882; Asst. Dir.-Gen. W.O., 1906-10; served in Sudan. 1898; in S. African War, 1899-1902 (despatches): in France, 1915-1919 (despatches, C.B., K.C.M.G., Legion of Honour), as D.M.S., Third Army, and has issue one dau. Res.: Hillcote, Bideford, K. Devon.
