(ret.); served during Ashanti War, 1873-4; during Transvaal Campaign, 1881; with Egyptian Expedition, 1882-4; in Soudan, 1884; present at battle of El Teb, Nile Expedition, 1884-6, present at four actions; commanded Army Service Corps at Woolwich, 1891-3; was D.A.A.G. Egypt, 1894-6; D.A.A.G., N.W. Dist.. 1897-9; and A.A.G. S. Dist., 1890-1903; Director of Supplies and Transport, N.E. Dist., 1903-5; A.Q.M.G., N. Command, 1905-8, and A.Q.M.G., N. Command during European War, 1914-16; second son of late Capt. William Ryland Rainsford, 36th Rest., of Cradockstown, Naas, Co. Kildare; b. 1853: m. 1909, Victoria Margaret, youngest dau. of the late Col. Sir Charles John Reed, K.C.B., of The Cragg, Northumberland, and Dringthorpe, York. Res.: Ardgay, Box, Wilts.
