Being the 9th year of the present reign

Whereas the House of People's Representatives has passed a resolution that it is appropriate to amend the provisions on elections of Members of the House of People's Representatives in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand;

Therefore, by and with the advice and consent of the House of People's Representatives, [the Monarch] gives a great royal command that the following Constitution Amendment on Elections of Members of the House of People's Representatives be enacted:

Section1.This Constitution [Amendment] shall be called the "Constitution Amendment on Elections of Members of the House of People's Representatives, 2485 Buddhist Era".

Section2.This Constitution [Amendment] shall come into force from the day of its publication in the Government Gazette onwards.

Section3.The stipulations of section 18 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand shall be repealed and replaced by the following stipulations:

"Section18.Members of the House of People's Representatives shall be in their positions for four years at a time. But if there are important circumstances affecting the internal or external policy, thus rendering impossible or inconvenient the holding of an election at the time the term of four years terminates, an act may be enacted to extend such time limit for not over two years at a time. If, during the said time limit, the circumstances have changed, a royal decree may be enacted to allow the holding of an election at any time.

If positions of Members become vacant for any other reason than retirement by rotation, an election of Members shall be held to fill all the vacant positions. But the Members admitted to fill those vacancies shall merely be in the positions for a period equivalent to the time limit governing the persons replaced by them."

Countersignatory:
Field Marshal P. Phibunsongkhram
Prime Minister
