Gipsy son, stood on the market
         Among of crowd,
     Gipsy son, on violin played
         Among the laughing-stock...
     Gipsy son! bunch call,
     Why you hum such a sad song? ^[1]
For a penny let the song will be merry,
And not like a hum of cemetery trees!...

Gipsy son had on shoulder
     A monkey which was faithful to him,
Which danced on the splices of ropes, ^[2]
     Though she was very wan …

Then to dance upwards! Gipsy accompanies!
     Bunch laughs and claps,
Suddenly Gipsy sang sad song.
     And silently strokes a monkey –

                        (prelude)

Off with your song [you] gipsy son!
From where you dragged [you] pagan son!
      ^* _* ^*
And gipsy son went in forest –
     And when moon got up from the North,
Gipsy son swayed on the tree –
     Hung – – ! alone and orphan's ..
Willow by new moon creaked dully
     Gipsy son raged with the winds!
And on the shoulder sat the monkey –
     Terrible this act! damn act!
Damn act!... (prelude )
