To Tiro at Patrae[edit]

Leucas, 7 November 50 BC[edit]

Tullius and Cicero and Quintus, father and son, say the most sincere hello to the most thoughtful and excellent Tiro.

See how much sweetness is upon you. We have been at Thyrreum for two hours: our host Xenomenes likes you as much as if he has lived with you. He has promised to supply everything you should need; I think he will do it. If you were healthier, I would be happy for him to bring you to Leucas, so you might make a full recovery there. You will see to what Curius, what Lyso, what the doctor think of it. I wanted to send Mario back to you, whom you would send to me, when you were a little better; but I thought that Mario could deliver one letter, while I expected numerous. You will do what you can, then; and you will make sure, if you love me, that Acastus is at the harbor every day. There will be many men to whom you can safely give a letter, who will gladly bring them to me. I will leave out no one who is going to Patrae.

I have every hope in Curius of diligently taking care of you. Nothing can be more thoughtful than that man, nothing more affectionate to me. Hand your whole self over to him. I prefer to see you a little later, when you're well, than right now, weak as you are. Accordingly, take care of nothing else except getting better; I will take care of the rest.

Not for the last time, goodbye.
