Cicero to Paetus

Yesterday I came to my villa at Cumae, tomorrow to you perhaps; but when I know for certain, I will inform you a little in advance. Yet M. Caeparius, when he had met me in the Gallinarian forest and I had asked how you were, said you were in bed because you were in pain from your feet. Of course I took it badly, as I ought to have, but still I've decided to come to you, so I might see and visit and even dine with you; for I don't think you have a gouty cook as well. So, expect a guest not only the least gluttonous but one hostile to expensive dinners.
