Malmaison, le 4 messidor, an XI

I have received your letter, dear little Josephine. It pains me to see you are suffering on the road, but you will be fine with a few days' rest. I am doing well. Yesterday I went hunting in Marly, and injured my finger very slightly while shooting a wild boar.

Hortense is doing rather well. Your grown son has been a little sick, but has gotten better. I believe this evening the ladies are playing The Barber of Seville. The weather is very beautiful. I hope you believe nothing that isn't true about the feelings which I have for my little Josephine. Always yours.
