Poem 1 (c. 100)
by Hadrian, translated from Latin by Wikisource
This is a merciful response to an epigram of Florus which said:

I don't want to be Caesar
walk through Britannia
endure the Scythian snow.

Literal English Translation Original Latin Line

Ego nōlō Flōrus esse,
ambulāre per tabernās,
latitāre per popīnās,
culicēs patī rotundōs.

I don't want to be Florus,
walk by the taverns,
lurk by the eating-house,
endure round gnats.
